The Amazon Circular

My online world is colliding with real life. I just received a circular from Amazon in the mail this morning. That's right, a print catalog featuring their new “specials.” Just another thing to throw away. Bad move, Amazon.

Or was it? Before throwing it in the trash, I quickly browsed through it and found a product I'm interested in that I would probably not have seen except for this catalog.

Although I feel a bit violated—mostly just out of principle—I think it's safe to say that even if a small percentage of people who have received this circular actually buy something, it would be a significant money-maker for the online retail giant. Maybe it's just another thing to add to the trash pile as soon as it comes in, but direct mailers still continue to be an effective marketing tool.
